Gooseberry, or Amla, has as much as twenty times more vitamin C than oranges. All parts of the Gooseberry bush are used for medicinal purposes, and this is especially true in Ayurvedic medicine. The fruit is small. It contains proteins, fiber, minerals, calcium, phosphorus, carotene, iron and Vitamins B and C. Unused cholesterol forms in our blood vessels. On the face these cholesterol deposits form little white bumps called "milia." High potency Vitamin C serums help to prevent the growth of these bumps that are very common in middle age. The Vitamin C helps to heal the capallary walls and reduces redness in the skin as well.
Black Currant Oil is used as an anti-inflammatory. It is a rich source of gamma linolenic acid (GLA) and alpha linolenic acid. Black Currant Oil contains twice as much GLA as Evening Primrose Oil. Along with mother's milk, these two oils are the only known sources of GLA. It has been studied at the Skin Study Center of Philadelphia to test if it had a significant benefit to dry skin. The study found significant improvement in skin dryness and noted a large reduction in water loss. |
